Hi guys,
I always pay an exact amount from my Lloyd's account to my joint account at the end of each month. Always goes through via faster payments....tonight however I get a Message saying "recipient account does not accept faster payments". Have tried five times. Any ideas?

Check the sort code of the receiving bank with this utility.

Exactly the same situation with sister bank - Halifax a bit earlier today! I was trying to make a FP to Co-op bank a/c to which I had previously made several FPs...but kept getting the message that the receipient bank does not accept FP. Sent a FP from Nationwide to the same Co-op a/c with no problems at all.
Seems Halifax/Lloyds have a problem at their end but instead of acknowledging it are passing on the blame to the other bank:mad:0 -
I sent a faster payment from Halifax to Lloyds earlier this evening without any problem.0

Thats because it is an internal transfer not a FP.0 -
Halifax to Lloyds and Lloyds to Halifax though seperate banks still go via internal transfer as opposed to Faster payment.
Strange that they behave that way. They should be seperate banks, but in this scenario they are one.0 -
Wow thanks for all the replies, what a great bunch. Forgot to say, receiving account is Hsbc. Will try again in the morning and ring Lloyd's if not. Presumably I would have to do a CHAPS if it fails again? Bit unsure of my options and the transfer is pretty urgent as have mortgage etc to come out of receiving account on 1st. Thanks again guys.0

The process should be transparent to you since the funds should be paid to the receiving bank using either FP, BACS or CHAPS (prior to the new legislation coming into force on 1 JAN 2012) and then using either FP or CHAPS from 1 JAN 2012 onwards. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Update- tried again first thing this morning and thankfully it went through fine. Not sure what was going on with Lloyd's yesterday. Thanks for all your quick responses and help, sincerely appreciated. Iain0

Check that your original attempts are not sat in 'Pending payments' and delete if so.0
