Bmw 1 series dtc problem
Comments
-
One morning turned the engine on and dtc light come on. I asked bmw garage and they are asking 75 pounds just for investigation the problem.
I searched online and it looks like a comman problem with 1 series and it cost over 1300.
Is there anything I can do?
You really do need to get the error code read by a diagnostic system. Anything else is just guesswork.
An independent garage will charge around £30.0 -
Thanks for that working0

Or buy yourself a code reader for £30 or less. Depending on the car type and age.
Reader with live data recording can be useful sometimes. Especially if its an intermittent problem.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Are there any other warning lights on? Like ABS or DSC?
A friend of mine has a 2006 320d and he had all of the lights come on at the same time, it was the ABS pump module (unfortunately all of these other stability control systems rely on the ABS) failing which knocked out all of them. He got a reconditioned pump fitted for about £500 I think.0 -
Get yourself over to babybmw.net, it's a 1 series owners forum, loads of info about it there. It's a common fault which used to cost a small fortune to fix, but there's a repair kit now which i think costs about 250-300 quid. If you're cars not too long out of warranty and has a full dealer history then BMW may contribute to the repair, ask your local dealer to contact them on your behalf. If it's not full dealer history then get a local indie BMW specialist garage and save a bit of cash as main dealer rates are eyewatering0

I would bet money that's its the dsc hydro unit, the internal pressure sensor fails meaning a new unit is required, the old fix was a complete dsc unit comprising of the abs pump/valve chest (which hold the sensor) and the electronics (dsc unit). This part was approx £1200 plus fitting and programming as it was a control unit. BMW have since released a modified repair kit for approx £150 which is just the valve chest and offending sensor, this does not require programming just fitting and brakes bleeding. I have heard that due to the reduced costs the repair doesn't fall in the peramiters for BMW goodwill although I could be wrong on that.
One last thing if you do buy a FC reader of your own it may not pick up the dsc fault as many of the cheaper ones only read engine management related codes unless your Planning on getting a more expensive model.0 -
Capainawesome is bang on, repair kits is around 150/170 mark, price i quoted was supply and fit by a garage0

in my experience small hand helds tend not to communicate properly with BMW's VAG skoda jag.
you really are better off having a BMW specialist garage do the fault coding and possibly repair, as the price of code reader to get into those ecu systems or stupidly high.0
