Hi Guys,
I received a call from my buildings insurance provider today telling me that they are increasing my premium by £25 as I have put in a claim for my garden wall which fell down a couple of weeks ago. Can they do this? The events leading up to this are as follows:
1. My buildings was due to expire on 15 December, I renewed the insurance for another year on 10 December and paid the premium in full at this time.
2. On 14 December I made a claim for garden wall which had fallen down in the wind the night before.
3. Insurance company very slow, didnt send me the claim form so had to chase twice and finally received on xmas eve.
4. On 30 December, insurer calls to say that they are increasing my premium by £25 as now I have lost my no claims bonus.
I can understand that I will lose my no claims bonus but surely they cannot change the price of my insurance once we've already agreed it?
Am I within my rights to refuse to pay their demands?
Thanks.

Your renewal premium was set on the assumption there would be no claims prior to the renewal date.
You had a claim before the renewal date, consequently all bets were off!
You have no rights to refuse their demands!0 -
Actually aye never read the dates correctly, your circumstances changed before the renewal date itself granted you've paid but any change in circumstance up till the renewal date could mean the premium is recalucated. My bad for not reading properly!0

You are in for a world of trouble if you do and a lifetime of increased premiums and redused cover elsewhere. You would have to declare a cancellation by the insurer due to non-payment on household and car insurance and some others for the rest of your life.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
