boiler cover help now inspection left us with no heating and hotwater

thought as my boiler and heating is comming up to 5yrs old and never had a problem would take out boiler and central heating cover with BG the enginner came out to inspect and has slaped a risk sticker on the boiler and the bathroom floor needs to come up and quoted over £600 + removal and refitting of floor to be able to be covered .
the safety advice is that the flue needs to be supportted and the prv pipe is copper for first meter then goes to main waste pipe in the extension to the main drain but the engineer says it needs to be cooper all the way and run under floor to outside roof (surley it is better the releif valve vents excees water to drain and not out on to roof ?)
the system as installed by a corgi registered engineer when the extension was done in 2007 .
he has then turned off the boiler by the electric's and left us with no heat or hot water all over christmas ,we have asked BG and all we got was there engineers right stuck as to where to go from here tried for second oppion but over the christmas period cannot get anyone
would it be ok to turn the water back on?

A problem with the flue,(and not knowing exactly what the problem is), could be life threatening if fumes were to escape, so best not to put the boiler back on without the problem being fixed!
The PRV outlet being connected into, what I must assume would be a plastic drainage pipe, would mean that if it were to discharge it would be possibly water at 80 degree's C which would damage the plastic pipe and probably melt it which would cause much more expence?
Is it possible for the pipe to be run throught the wall directly below the boiler?
It would not harm a tiled roof but may if its a flat roof in which case it would need to be run to a more suitable position!
It should also be understood that the discharge, much as any overflow pipe, is a warning pipe to ensure that an occupant can see there is a problem that needs fixing and as such should be clearly visible also!

Sounds like typical BG. They their own rules that do not match the proper laid down regs.

Neither of these 'faults' would require the boiler to be switched off. The flue is just missing a support bracket and the plastic prv pipe, although not advisable, would not constitute any danger.

At worst all you should have been given is a Not To Current Standards notice and the boiler left on.

I'm surprised he didn't suggest one of BG sales team visiting to sell you a new boiler!

An unsupported flue is 'at risk', the boiler should be physically turned off. It will still be operational as before but it is your decision to turn it back on and accept the risk of the flue leaking due to the possible strains excerted by the lack of support ;-)
