The figures on my parking ticket don't match

Hi everyone,

I have been issued a parking charge notice of £100. The notice says that if I pay within 14 days my charge will be reduced by 40% to £75. Clearly, basic maths is too difficult for them. I'm determined to pay no more than £60. The easiest way would be to ridicule them in my appeal but this might not be the wisest thing to do. Is there a piece of legislation I can use to support my appeal on the grounds that their calculation is simply wrong?
Thanks

By the figures quoted I am assuming its a private ticket. If so don't do anything except ignore them!

    Yes the legislation is
    Administrative penalties are unlawful :
If your ticket does not say:
Traffic management act 2004 on the heading, you have in fact only been given an invoice for an alleged contractual dispute, if the invoice is for more than the actual loss of the land owner then it is a penalty and parking penalties can only be charged by local authorities under the traffic management act 2004.
So if your ticket is from a private company, what you in fact have is a FAKE and is part of a SCAM that impersonates authority and if you do not pay it there is not a great deal they can do about it other than send one threatening letter after another full of FAKE threats of FAKE court action and Fake solicitors letters and FAKE debt collectors to go with the FAKE PARKING TICKET they gave you.
Now, find this ticket and tell us where it asks you to send the money, hold all bets until we have that information, tell anyone else in your ear shot to shut up until you have sought full advice from the experts on here.
This forum contains some of the foremost experts in defending private parking matters in the country and the advice you will be given could save you a lot of money, as if this is a scam ticket as we suspect it is, the initial fee will just be the START of what you will be asked to pay, they will add on further charges in late payment fees.
Now, calm down and come back with the ticket when you have an hour spare and your advice will be instant.
    DO NOT DO ANYTHING YET.

If this "parking charge" is from a private company then ignore it, and don't even think of sending them £60.
Do NOT appeal, they will reject it.
As you say, the maths proves that they are a bunch of halfwits. Which company is it?

Not all genuine tickets are issued under the Traffic Management Act, of course. In places where parking has not been decriminalised, the tickets are issued under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (Excess Charge Notice).

And tickets issued under railway byelaws may be called something else as well, for example Parking Penalty Notice.

Parking charge notice = fake pcn = ignore completely

There is no confusion here the OP has said what they have had, come on guys ! ;)
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Who issued it and why are you thinking on paying anything at all? - If it is a legit ticket, many can be challenged and if from a private firm (which "parking charge notice" suggests) it should be studiously ignored.

Yes they can be but generally state Blah de blah POLICE SERVICE on the ticket and someone with one would certainly know about it.
On railway by-law tickets, I have yet to see a genuine one, only PPC dressed up as them so far.
Anyway as the OP has gone awol it could be another wind up.

I wasn't referring to police tickets, but council tickets, where parking is not decriminalised - Newcastle is one that springs to mind.

they(Newcastle) stopped them in april 2009, they were under the old parking placements order 2001, which If I remember correctly were found to have been superseded by the 2004 order and were invalid , it was all swept under the carpet and nobody got any money back.

OK, so Newcastle no longer issue them. That was off the top of my head. There are others, however, for example St Edmundsbury Council and Forest Heath (as a quick Google showed me). Slightly getting off the point though, which was that, just because it doesn't say Traffic Management Act, doesn't mean you should automatically ignore it.
