Creaking steering on brand new Ford Fiesta

Hi all
I purchased a Ford Fiesta in August 2011 & within a few days noticed a slight creaking when right turning steering at low speeds. I thought it may disappear as the car settled down but its actually worse now, creaking louder & when turning left & right & turning when stationary.
I've googled this problem & it seems to be an issue with some of the Fiestas but up to now Ford haven't been able to explain or rectify the problem.
I'm intending on getting it into the garage 1st thing in New Year & was hoping you could advise me on how i should go about it.
Should i document all garage visits & will i have grounds for requesting a replacement if the problem can't be rectified?

Thankyou & have a very happy new year

I recently went through the process of rejecting a vehicle and in my case took 5 months (faults started appearing within 3-4 days of having the vehicle)

It's going to sound anal but.. keep a list of dates/times you've done ANYTHING

    ie:

    30/12/2011 @ 11:15am - Called ford, no answer
30/12/2011 @ 11:21am - Called ford, spoke to becky who booked car in for 5/1/2012 to look at <Problems>

It will help to refresh your memory of everything that has gone on and you can just detail that to show Ford all the issues you've had.

Did you report the problem to ford when it first appeared or have you left it till now as that may make it a lot harder if your looking to reject and get a new vehicle.

I have a 2011 fiesta now and thankfully it's 100% fault free! Hope yours will be in time too.

Stop worrying and just take the car back and explain what the problem is.
Its no big deal really :)

If it's not: Fix Or Repair Daily, then its Found On Road Dead.

Fords are highly reliable engine wise but other bits tend to be a bit weak on their smaller cars. The larger cars are usually built like tanks but the fiestas and Kas... not impressive other than engine reliability.

Sounds to me like its the top mount bearings in your shocks OR the steering rack is shot (I know some manufacturers supply reconditioned racks via their parts dept so lord only knows whether they also fit them to their new cars). As the above said, make notes of EVERYTHING. A new car shouldn't be playing up within 3-4 days and frankly if it is, I'd take it back and ask for either a refund / agreement cancellation OR another car. They'll try to insist they can fix it for you but seriously, how long do you think it will be before something else goes wrong? - The car you have now is a Bad Omen.
  • I didn't report the fault straight away as it was very quiet initially & the manual said allow 1000 miles for things to bed in.
I've now done just over 1000 miles but the problem is worse, intend on getting into garage 1st thing in New year.
  • Last time I had this on a car it turned out to be the steering column plastic surround and that when I removed and replaced it, it shut up.

    :D

We have 14 MK7 Fiestas at work at the moment (pool cars). A mix of 2010 59 and 2010 10, all with about 20k miles on the clock.

At the moment, one of them has a clunk from the steering, one of them has grinding under braking and one of them is just back from repair for a steering related problem.

Countless problems with electric windows, 12V accessory sockets, etc.

Reports from the valeter that the carpets are starting to lift in several places in some of them too

    That's the Ford standard ;)
