Rome Ciampino airport transfer coaches - warning

Just came back from a lovely weekend in Rome on a cheap Ryanair flight.

Just a word of warning to anyone else landing at Ciampino airport: It seems that Ryanair and other low cost airlines sell coach tickets at 8 euro each and try very hard to hide the cheaper local competition who only charge 6 Euro!

Anyways, don't go with the Terravision coaches at 8 Euro but look for the Busshuttle stop (the ramp nearest to the main road and easy to miss) and buy a ticket at 6 Euro from the person in uniform waiting by the stop.

The same when you want to get back to Ciampino from Termini in central Rome, the last (farthest) coach parked, in the long line of coaches is the one at 6 Euros!

  • I went a few weeks back too. We just took a bus from the station (for a euro ) to the nearest underground station (i can't remember its name!) and then just bought a metro pass and used the underground.
  • Indeed, we went to Milan before Xmas and found that there was a local company that had a desk at the airport that was cheaper than Terravision.

So yes, I'd recommend always looking for an alternative.
  • Agreed waited over an hour for the terravision bus on arrival (customer service was shocking too!). For 2 euro per person including case you can get the bus to to the underground then find your way from there for as little as a Euro!

I also caught the local bus to the underground, my only comment would be is that it didn't appear to be in the nicest of area's and there were quite a few unsavoury looking characters lurking around. This was fairly late at night though and it didn't seem quite so bad on the way back during daytime.

The underground station is Anagnina at the end of Line A. Ended up using the local coach transfer to Termini when we were there a couple of weeks though as the Metro service stops at 9:00 on Line A for work to be carried out for the next year or so. There are replacement buses MA1 and MA2 running once the Metro stops, but its a lot more difficult working out where you are on a bus compared to being on the metro, and the bus didn't always stop in places where you could spot which station you were at!
