I have a house thats 7 years old. Its detached and i want to hang some things on the wall that would be classed as an outside wall.
I have used a stud detector and it tells me there is a stud but if i tap the wall it sounds hollow. Everyone at work keeps saying its just plasterboard and breeze block behind it on and no cavity..who is right? any info most greatful

7 year old house 99% chance it is block work (cheaper to lay) however theres also a good chance you dont have studs either more likely to be dot and dab (boards stuck to wall with blobs of adhesive)0 -
The cavity will be between the internal blocks and external bricks/blocks0

Like this - look at the "blobs" on the left of the window
Nice advert for lucozade0 -

A bog standard 5mm rawl plug and screw will easily support a pic. or clock in your situation.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
Those fixings are only really suitabe for stud walls ,with dry linned walls just drill through the plaster board into the block work and use a longer screw0
