Deleted files still taking up space.SORTED THANKS

Hi,
I downloaded a large film that a friend had uploaded for me in RAR format,I un-rar'd it to my external Hard Drive,watched it & then deleted it.
Problem is it doesn't appear to have dissapeared from the HD as the remaining space hasn't decreased after deletion,even tho the files are gone.
I ran disc cleanup & CC Clean but they aren't showing it as cleaned?..
Any help appreciated.

Ok, I only suggested cos ssome A/V's and some Players hang around with open files . Many many thanks for that!! I'd never heard of it,so I just downloaded & ran it & it's found way more stuff than I thought!

Did you 'empty' the Recycle Bin ?
Deleted files are not actually deleted yet, they are just marked as deleted (by modifying the file name), and will not go until you empty the Recycle Bin.
This is how you are able to recover deleted files.0
