Ok people you will like this.
Started reclaiming my PPI through Bank Complaints Ltd 2009.
Informed HSBC that I was out of work Nov 2010 and not likely to be back in work till end of Feb 2011, arrears collection insisted I pay £25-£30 towards loan account, no mention of PPI on account?
Jan 2011 HSBC were still claiming PPI policy not miss-sold and I should talk to FOS.
April 2011 arrears collection start threatening court action for middle of May.
May 6th I phone HSBC after hearing that they are no longer contesting any genuine claim and have a long chat with a manager who agrees that HSBC should never have let things go this far and agrees to sort things out.
May 7th, HSBC manager phones me back to inform me that the court action has been stopped and I should receive a formal offer from HSBC next week.
June 21st receive first offer for £5,400 which Bank Complaints Ltd advise I sign and accept. A week later I find out that HSBC has closed my loan account and registered as a debt in my name, sending it to a debt collections agency called Metropolitan. I make an official complaint.
13th July receive a second offer from HSBC for £7,200 but this will be payable direct to Metropolitan, leaving me with a registered debt of £2,000. Bank Complaints Ltd are unwilling to deal with HSBC and say there is nothing they can do and basically leave me to deal with things on my own.
August I have a sit down meeting with a HSBC manager to try and get things sorted out, he listens and takes notes of times and dates and then finds everything on his system in black and white, including all the transcribed calls in May to the HSBC manager. At this point he makes another official complaint on my behalf and advises me to talk to the Ombudsman.
I register an official complaint through the Ombudsman who agree to fast track the investigation.
September I am contacted by the HSBC PPI team who spend the next three weeks recalling the account from Metropolitan, set up a new loan account and refund over £9,000.
Bank Complaints or Dartana Consulting or Dealing with Debt or whatever new company Martin Knipe is now trading under is still trying to send me invoices for a percentage of money he had nothing to do with recovering. Avoid him like the plague.
I am still dealing with the Ombudsman as I am seeking compensation for the debt that HSBC registered against me and the effect this has had on my start-up business that I am trying to raise funding for. I have had an adjudicator looking at this since September but he has been running around in circles and has now passed it on to an Ombudsman after making a right hash of it.
If anybody has any comments or advice please let me know.

Quick update, just found out something interesting after emailing the HSBC Chairman and the subsequent internal investigation. The funds from the new loan that were supposed to pay off the debt wrongly registered with Metropolitan Collections has in fact been sitting in a HSBC holding account for the last five months.
This means that HSBC have been refusing to clear the debt registered against me solely on the premise that the original loan is still unpaid.
This wrongly registered debt has been preventing me from raising any funds for myself or my company.0
