I wonder if anyone knows if I will be entitled to time off when my husband comes home after bypass surgery and time off for when he has it done?

no. you are not entitled to either paid or unpaid leave in law. I'd discuss it with your boss and ask what they have done for others.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
If you think your husband will need someone to call in on him and there are no friends/family/neighbours who will do it, ask your local Red Cross group about help. They can arrange some care for the first few weeks when he comes out of hospital.0

In my DH's company it is at the discretion of the manager, my DH had to have a couple of days off when i was in hospital and they allowed him the time off but did not pay him.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

Would you not have enough notice that you can book it off as holiday that way you still get paid?
But as others have said, go and talk to your boss-i'm sure most would allow a little time off unpaid for compassionate reasons0 -
You need to talk to your employer to see if you can arrange flexible working/get compassionate leave but as you're likely to get notice they may tell you to take annual leave. If you look at your contract/staff handbook you may be able to find your employers policy with regards to time off for dependents/compassionate leave.
If your husband needs care when he comes out of hospital you need to make sure that he gets a care assessment while he's in hospital so that help can be put in place for when he comes home. For planned surgeries where it's likely a person is going to need help to cope once they're discharged from hospital an assessment can be made prior to admission so that a plan is already in place for when they're well enough to go home.0
