Have you tried HereStay.com? I don't know their exact insurance policy, but they let you rent vacation homes from private owners, which are probably much easier to deal with than big business hotel offices.

    What????

The OP has paid a deposit for a holiday which she now can't take as her Dad is ill.

She is asking if she can get her deposit back.

She does not have travel insurance.

Why are you suggesting she rent a "vacation home" from this website?

She doesn't want to rent a "vacation home", she wants her deposit back!!!!

The OP hasn't been dealing with big business hotel offices.

Janey, sorry to hear about your Dad.
Unfortunately, as other posters have said, it's highly unlikely that you'll get your deposit back.

Might be worth thinking about stephb34's suggestions.
