Fantastic news. I'm currently pacemaker sitting with my mother, obviously a far more routine procedure done under local anaesthetic. She says she dozed off while she was waiting to come home, but she's been talking non-stop ever since ...

Hi CH27 thanks for asking, He was at Broadgreen the care was second to none. He stayed on POCCU from the day of op (wednesday) till today because of low oxygen but all ok today and now on normal ward. I was shocked when I saw him after the op like death warmed up which he I suppose he was. I feltlike I was either going to cry or throw up but did neither. Watching him cough I know I have to stop smoking before he gets back so the patches are on tomorrow I am determined.
Even if he tries to go back to smoking I am going to stay off it will be easier for him to stop if I'm not doing it anyway. He has managed to get out of bed unaided to go to the loo today which is major. xxx

    Well done!

That's the best thing that you could do for him (and yourself as well)!

    All the best with it.

My friend recently had a triple heart bypass and he went onto one of those electronic cigarettes. Apparently it was recommended by the british heart foundation and every time he had a drag, it let out a little puff of steam. he said it gave him that initial rush that you get from nicotine (I have never smoked so i have no idea what it feels like to try and quit) he was even allowed to use it in hospital. Might be worth trying if you both find things hard. Good luck and all the best to both of you.
  • Can I suggest if he does express a desire for cigarettes that you tell him until he can get up and walk down to the shop for them himself and walk back without any problems, well he's not going to get any, as you aren't getting them for him?
