I bought a personalised number plate from DVLA two months ago as I intended to buy a car to put it on. however due to finances I have decided against a newer car. However I paid nearly £700 for a car registration im never going to use. I checked the website and I could only get a refund after 10 days - is there anywhere I can sell it? - even for a couple of hundred quid?
Dont want to waste all that money - really regret it now
Grateful for thoughts

Ive seen plenty for sale on ebay.On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0

Why not just put it on your current car instead? - It might not be a minter or show piece but at least you'll still have the plate for the future if you find another car.0

thanks for the suggestions. i cant put it on my current car as its too old. you can only put them on post-2001 i think0

You can keep it on retention, then it's yours for another year. It's not cheap though, £80 or something IIRC and you have to renew each year.0

You can put them on any car you want as long as the vehicle you are putting them on isn't older than the registration plate year code
For example you can't put EG04 BOB on any car older than 2004.0 -
Don't be so hard on yourself. It will continue to have some value so unless you need the cash desperately why not keep it for a couple of years and see how your finances/priorities change.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I thought I'd update you guys. I emailed the DVLA and asked if I could get the £80 admin fee back and accept the loss of £600 for the vehicle reg plate. They offered me a full refund and its now tucked away in my bank account - well chuffed
