Parking Charge Notice

Good evening to everyone ...hope you all had a nice Christmas!
My wife is disabled and I took her into town today and parked in a chargeable disabled space in a private car park operated by Meteor. You've guessed it... forgot to display her blue badge and despite having a valid parking ticket displayed, received a charge for parking in a space reserved for disabled users and not displaying the blue badge. The best bit is they have printed the wrong registration on the £50 charge request. The 4th character instead of showing a digit is in fact showing a letter.

What advice please....ignore as per advice and see what happens?
Regards & thanks for the use of this forum.

    Here's what happens:
    You ignore
They write to you with some malicious threats
    You ignore some more
They write to you some more
    You ignore even more
They write even more threatening debt collectors, CCJs, bailiffs
    You ignore
They give up and realise their easy profit isn't coming.

    Sorted.

They are not a council, they have no legal powers over you. They're trying to claim it under contract law however they can't enforce it.

I've had a couple of 'tickets' from meteor and they amount to nothing. don't appeal this; there's nothing to appeal because you've done nothing wrong. (and the appeals process is a con).

take a while to study the stickies above for further reassurance.

You have done nothing wrong, the blue badge scheme does not apply on private land, you paid the landowner for the use of his/her land and parked in a bay you are perfectly entitled to using (your wife is disabled under the definition of disabled in the equalities act).

Ignore Meteor but if the car-park belongs to a retail outlet, do complain of harassment under the equalities act 2010 that you are considering taking legal advise if the harassment continues.

One of these days someone will take a supermarket to court under the Equalities Act and will win big money

You may not even get a letter unless they can work out what the correct VRM is! These car park monkeys are often not the brightest of animals and any picture will probably be of the dash, to show no BB for their photographic evidence!
However if you do receive a letter do as already advised file it, and ignore it!
  • Thanks very much for all the advice received it is much appreciated. I will do as suggested and ignore! Where would we be without all of these forums and the help available???

Getting harassed for late payment charges from the private parking companies after being foolish to pay up:p
