That's fair for waht needs doing, provided it really does need doing.

Better the devil you know - jsut start putting aside a pot of money for a replacement when it throws another big bill at you.
Looking at autotrader you could porbably get £999 for your car with an MOT - it's worth persevering with provided the rest of the car is ok and meets your needs.

    HANG ON...

Four new tyres. New suspension spring. New exhaust. Female driver...

This sounds like a KwikSh1t MoT! You didn't take it to KwikSh1t or another Fast Fit rip off center did you?
no female has ever driven the car in the 7 1/2 years i have owned it, well my fiancee drove it once and didnt think much of it, i have access to her car whenever she isnt using it which is an 06 grande punto

i wouldnt touch k.s with a barge pole, we dont have one here (thank god) its all local run places, my repairs are all done by a family friend who runs a garage, hopefully all done by tonight :)

£1000 a year for repairs  it really is better the devil i know then :j

    Does it?

I bought an admittedly fairly high-mileage but good condition and well-maintained 2003 Mitsubishi for £1000 last year. A banger it is not -- I expect it to have another 4 or 5 years ahead of it at least.

Must admit I'm not really sure how the OP could have considered FOUR done tyres a "shock". One or two maybe, particularly if there was a bush gone and it had worn out on the inside. But the rear tyres must have been marginal for quite a while.

Bangers are not the bangers they used to be when I was in my teens with holes in the floor etc but £1000 is bargain basement prices. I looked at £500 cars for my brother a couple of years ago. It was either rotting body or knackered engine and we looked at well over a dozen.

I bought a decent 106 for under £500, and more recently a little Renault for a runabout for the same.

Having said that I'd keep the Fiat.
