hi, hoping somebody might be able to help me. My laptop is telling me I need a new battery as the computer may switch off suddenly. which it has done twice now although the battery was still 50 % charged.
The laptop is a hp g 61 series, any ideas where I can get a replacement from that doesn't cost the earth??
Thank you

You could try ebay0

Firstly, how long have you had the battery?
Do you ever let the battery run down fully and then re-charge it?
Are you one of those people that leaves the mains adapter plugged in when the battery is fully charged? This doesn't do much good to the battery. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

I used them for a battery for my sons laptop as per the recommendation. It arrived within a couple of days and works fine.
He doesn't seem to have posted for quite a while. Any reason why?0 -

Good to have another recommendation for them, thanks.

6 months ago I used King Battery company for a new battery for my Medion and have been very pleased with it. I got a 9 cell for about £50 including P&P which was a better battery than the original.
They seem to have one for yours in stock: http://www.king-battery.co.uk/laptop_battery_description/11586/G61%20Series/55/HP.html0 -

I've had it nearly 2 years.
Do you ever let the battery run down fully and then re-charge it?
Recently yes, it has run down the the warning at 12% when i plugged it in, but it does seem to be running down very quickly..

Like i say no so much in the last 6 months or so, but I have to now as the laptop switches its self off at 50 % with no warning and im working so dont want to loose my work0 -

It's always worth treble-checking for the right one. Google for the battery model number shown on the original battery. You are likely then to find that it is just one model number out of several alternatives which are used with other computers e.g. I believe your battery may also be same as a battery for a Gateway laptop. And my medion battery is used in some Acer models I think.
You may then find (as I did) that there is a better spec battery available with say 9 cells instead of six. Do try to check the battery capacity too. My original was a six cell 6600mAh battery but the new one is 7800mAh. I would say there is little point buying a battery with a lower capacity but every reason to buy one with a higher capacity (longer charge).
Some sellers tell you how much the battery weighs. Cheap replacement batteries tend to weigh less than the originals. I was told somewhere that higher capacity batteries tend to weigh more than the originals but mine weighs the same give or take 10 grammes.
It is also assuring if you see the battery is labelled at the same voltage as the original, although I understand that this may not always be the case due to different labeling convention as opposed to a different battery - I would think twice however before getting a battery which stated a different voltage to the original.0
