I too, had the same problem with my old epson printer. I took it to a computer shop and they told me it was irrepairable and had been caused by me using compatible ink cartridges. I'm going to use them again in this printer as the compatible ink is roughly £7 on ebay, whilst the genuine Epson ink is about 5 times as much. As the printer is only £25 it's worth less than the cost of one genuine ink set.

Yes very true! i went through about 5 sets of entire colours in about 6 months so was a fair amount of things printed. Hell, Tesco self scan doesnt care whether a coupon has been printed in durabrite :D

The clogging may be due to infrequent use of the printer, rather than using compatibles. If the printer is not used much, print a nozzle check each week
  • it's between £25 and £30 at several stores so the Argos 'was price' is an absolute joke!

    Robert Dyas £24.99
    South West Inks £25.01
    Asda £29
    Tesco £29.97
    One Click Stationery £26.54

ive got the wireless one and i have to say that i think its well worth the money, now we can all use the printer in the house without having to drag it around to the pc that needs it

  • I think I may go for one of these. I had an Epson wireless all in one but it too got clogged up whilst using cheap compatible ink........I was using it A LOT - printing photos for my daughters 21st birthday party. I'd only had it two months  I used cheap ink in my previous printer and never had a problem....it was the paper feed that died on that one :rotfl:

Not suitable for me as it needs Windows XP or later. My laptop is quite old now and runs off Vista.

  • Ink blockages are probably NOTHING to do with using 3rd party inks, in fact you're less likely to get a blockage using 3rd party inks because they don't have hardeners in them. It's down to luck and how often you use the printer. If you don't use it for some time then it will in all likelihood get blocked, mostly a good few cleaning cycles will fix it but if not then pouring the cleaning solutions over the print head can sometimes help or a vigorous rub with a cloth soaked in isopropanol.

If you are going to use a printer very infrequently and need an inkjet then you would be better off with an HP or equivalent where the print head is part of the ink cartridge so gets changed when you change the carts unfortunately this means you won't get mega cheap ink but you won't get a blocked print head either so....

I have only ever killed one Epson printer and that was an old Stylus Colour 440 which suffered from terminal ink blockage and that only ever saw Epson inks since then i've only ever used 3rd party inks usually around 79p per cart and NEVER had a blocked head again.

In that time i've had a number of Epson printers which i've literally run into the ground the last was my old RX500 (which I adored!!) and lasted SIX YEARS and did thousands or prints all on cheap ink
