Car insurance comparison sites
Taking the usual MSE advice, I visited Money Supermarket and GoCompare.com (how I hate that singing idiot ad!) and found that the cheapest quotes were on the Money Supermarket Site. However, I delved a bit deeper and found that about 7 of the cheapest 10 quotes, although from different companies, Swinton, Halifax, Post Office etc. they all turned out to from Premier Underwriting Ltd. Has anyone any information or experience of this company. They only get 1 star on Defaqto ratings, which should tell me something, but it's all about money saving. Any suggestions helpful as my quote from Churchill has gone up by 25% !! No claims in 2011 either.

Used Swinton, avoid as they also use Drive (un)assist as their accident (mis)management company. This to me is now more important than who the policy is with.
Aviva were doing good deals, but no idea who they use if you need to claim.0 -
All insurance companies can be a pain in the !!!!.
When you have decided to buy your insurane, clear your cookie stash then go to quidco you will save another 50ish quidAll the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
1 Star.. That takes some doing! Sounds like they don't cover you for a lot... could be why they're so cheap
No experience of them myself.
Would be somewhat concerned with the following however:
rescue coverservice
cost
transport after accident covered
no
courtesy car offered
no
Leaves you in a bit of an awkward position following an accident0 -
Not necessarily so! Using Quidco, even with cashback offers they worked out more expensive than comparison sites. Also they do not do cashback for all insurance companies. Just for added information, I did this for my wife's car insurance last year (July) and am still waiting for cashback and yes I have complained. All insurance companies can be a pain in the !!!!. After reading Martin Lewis advice on getting chepaer insurance I tried http://www.aviva.co.uk/car/ which doesn't use comparison websites. Over the last 2 years they came out best for both the wife and I.0

Yep, tried Aviva, the price was not very good I'm afraid. Had to do something by to-day so going for LV (Liverpool & Victoria) a good price and they have a 5-star rating on Defaqto. After reading Martin Lewis advice on getting chepaer insurance I tried http://www.aviva.co.uk/car/ which doesn't use comparison websites. Try NFU Mutual (National Farmers Union). I am not a farmer but have my car insurance with them. I am a 26yr old male with 2 years no claims, they were cheaper than anyone through comparison sites, with lower interest on a direct debit payment.
my cheapest quotes on comparison sites were Hastings, who wanted £200ish for payment 1, followed by £100ish each month after. NFU said it is simply £100ish per month, no big up front payment. I have made a few changes to my policy since taking it out, for moving house, adding business cover for work etc, and they do not charge any admin fees, i know my old insurers wanted £50 for any changes. They have local offices too, I live in Walsall and deal with their branch in Burntwood, near Cannock, and I think i speak to the same person regarding my policy each time i call.
I dont work for them, but have found them to be a breath of fresh air after some insurance nightmares...0 -

I've been with LV for three years now and their renewal quote has always been around £10 - £20 less than that obtained on the comparison sites and LV themselves as a new customer.:D
So in my case they're not penalising an existing customer but seem to be rewarding loyalty! Now after 2+ years there's no administration charge for policy changes (different vehicle etc.), if needed, either.
Of course their worth would be tested if I had an incident/accident or made a claim. So can't comment on that.0 -
Thanks for that, they certainly seem to get good reviews which is encouraging. By the way, the answer is a quadzicleoldagetraveller wrote: »I've been with LV for three years now and their renewal quote has always been around £10 - £20 less than that obtained on the comparison sites and LV themselves as a new customer.:D
