Insurance Problems

Hi all,
Just gauging if anyone else has had major problems with Royal Sun Alliance for House Insurance?
We have put in a claim as our living room ceiling came down beginning of December. As my partner failed to mention a water leak back in the summer when she first rang to log the claim, RSA are claiming that the collapse is down to wear & tear and are refusing to pay. Funny how all the other ceilings are absolutely fine! Oh and the only part of the ceiling to collapse is below where the leak from above was!
Not withstanding this, we have had 3 builders/people who had previously been round the property/made repairs who have vouched for the leak and water ingress into the ceiling. Still no joy with them and they are now saying it's our responsibility to prove what we are saying via a building surveyor report. Yes being accused of lying from an insurance company, now there's a novelty!
I'm just wondering why the hell we are paying house insurance in the first place!
Anyone else had a simliar experience with RSA?
Thanks

Can you clarify, it appears from your post that you are saying that the damage was the result of a water leak that was known about back in the summer. Is that correct?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Hi
Yes there were two water leaks, one from a pipe and then another from a leaking shower unit. I didn't realise at the time that there had possibly been damage or would cause issues further down the line with the ceiling.
