Car Breakdown out of Warranty

Hi All,
New here and needed to ask you all a question, i'm hoping you can help.
I bought a second hand Citreon C2 from a Citreon dealership which came with a warranty but the warranty has just expired at the end of august there. As luck would have it, the car now has a major fault with computer ABS system.
I don't know much about cars but I know this fault has not been caused by me, driving, wear and tear or otherwise. They have the car at the moment and are asking for £600 for the repairs. Money I do not have.
As the issue is not caused by me and (after a quick google search) this appeats to be a common fault with this type of car I really don't feel i should be liable for the costs of the repairs and Citreon or the dealership should cover the costs.
Has anyone come across something like this? Any advice on my rights or any of the above? Can I push back and ask citreon to cover the costs as it is a fault rather than a breakdown caused by me or my driving?
Insurance company has said they won't cover it. I need the car but really can't afford the costs.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Helen.

When did you buy the car?
I fear the warranty will not be of any use to you... it expired months ago.
The Sale of Goods Act may help though.0 -
Citroen won't cover it as the original manufacturers warranty usually dies with transfer of ownership. You don't say how old the car is. The Citroen C2 model has been on the go for over 7 years now so yours could be anything from a few months to 7 years old. You also don't say what the mileage is.0

What do you suspect the fault is?0

Are you sure about this? Certainly, the five year Hyundai warranty is transferrable to second and subsequent owners, and I'm pretty sure that this applies across the board these days.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
As above, the warranty moves with the owner:

How old is the car and what warranty did it come with? Was it the remainder of the manufacturers warranty or a 3rd party one. If it was a manufacturer warranty, has it been serviced according to the schedule?
Edit: Is the fault the ABS sensor one listed here? http://c2club.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-10519.html
If it is then the main agent is probably going to replace them than clean them first hence the cost. An independent or citroen specialist might attempt to clean them first which may fix the fault for less.0 -
I doubt Citroen will be of any help, our Citroen brought the engine light up about a week after its third birthday, i phoned the selling dealership to ask them to have a look at it, the first thing they said before they even laid eyes on it was that the car was out of warranty, thats fine i expected no different, PSA group and its dealers will never see my money again.
For the cost quoted i expect the ABS ECU has gone wrong, standard main dealer practice is to fit new parts till the problem goes away.
The unit in question might well be repairable though, there are several good workshops specialising in repairing these electronic units now, i have had similar units repaired before with considerable savings.
First thing you need to know is exactly what is wrong with the car, once you get a correct diagnosis you can then search out someone who can fix it instead of throw parts at it.0 -
If you didnt cause the fault, It was not wear and tear who did cause the fault?
You need to give a lot more details. Car age and mileage. When did you buy the car?
What is the actual fault? Its a common fault. It could be a dirty sensor. Cheap fix.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

And this is why i despair of the car buying public. A tiny amount of knowledge, internet access and no money and all of a sudden its everybody elses fault but theirs...0 -
