ESA Medical

Options
Hi

I've read a lot on here about the ESA medicals etc, but am looking for some advice plz.

I got a letter from the Dwp last week stating that i were on long term incapacity which to my knowledge i have been for at least the last 5 years, i filled in an Esa form back in August/Sept 2011,then this morning i received a letter from Atos telling me that i'm to go for a medical on the 5th of Jan and to bring along any evidence and medical statements about my condition, now bearing in mind i've only 4 days to get hold of this because of the bank holidays etc, the hospital that deals with me is 30 miles away so i cant see any letters arriving in time for me to use.

Firstly what are my chances of been awarded this without any medical evidence, or should i just postpone the appointment so that i can get the evidence i need.

Thanx in advance for any help.

You can request the appointment is postponed - however, you can't actually be certain this will happen.

They are only required to give you 7 days notice. (not working days IIRC).

What are you on IB for?

http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/m-06-11.pdf - are the descriptors against which you are to be measured.

If you miss the appointment, then you will not be paid at the assessment rate until you get a new medical, which may take some time, or appear at a tribunal, which may take most of a year.
  • As per Roger... and it is worth noting that getting such supporting evidence can be very useful... ideally you would have it in time for the medical.. but you can still introduce it into the process.. you might be able to get it to the DWP such that Decision maker can consider it along with the other evidence (including the report resulting from your ATOS face to face medical). Even then you could introduce it later if you disagree with their decision such that it can be used by them in reconsideration of decision... or indeed by tribunals service if appeal is necessary. So all is not lost if you can't get such in time for the medical with ATOS.

Does anyone know how trhat works if the letter arrives when you are away from home, on holiday or whatever?

How long after sending in the ESA form do you normally wait for the phone call telling you that you have to go for the face to face test. North East area. Thankyou.

For new ESA applications (not conversions) sometime around the 10th week, or so.
The appointment is arranged (ideally) around the 13th week. In practice, it may be longer.

For a renewal, I sent in my ESA50 mid-september, and still have not either been informed I need to come in for a medical, or have been put in either group.

I'm unsure of the timescales for IB conversions.
