  • Hiya clumsy_cupcake,

I do a fairbit of book selling myself - usually on amazon and ebay and sometimes on some student websites too (loads of textbooks in my collection!).

I've not heard overly great things about fatbrain - they don't seem to have the widest ISBN collection so after manually typing in loads of barcodes only a small percentage is recognised. Still, if you have the ISBNs on a spreadsheet then it won't be too much of a problem. What's really nice is the free postage so at least there isn't an initial outlay.

back2cash is a lot slower - they manually assess your collection and then agree over email what they want. You then post it to them and then collect the refund of the postage. Their prices are generally lower but they seem to have more of a database for books. A few friends have used them before and because they have a decent customer service unit you feel like you build a relationship and are getting a better deal.

Bear in mind there isn't the greatest amount of money to be made (usually only pence, although hardbacks can sell for more). Personally I find it easier to individually sell on the larger sites but I guess it all depends on what your circumstances are.

I haven't used either of the ones you mention, but I have found https://www.webuybooks.co.uk to be very good.
  • thanks for the replies, someody just told me about green metropolis but because you have to wait for somebody to buy the book may be a slow option

  • I used http://zapper.co.uk/ to sell my books too and they gave me reasonable prices and seem to have quite a wide range of ISBNs. They took 80% of mine.

Thanks for this - had a few of books sitting unsold on my green metropolis account and Zapper have quoted me £14 for the ones I have checked so far and any they don't accept are going off to the charity shop. :)

Did the enter the ISBN number and not the barcode.

I have just entered 15 and its accepted 10 of mine, only another 400 to check which are currently sitting in the garage awaiting for a carboot. Guess what I'll be doing on Hogmanay:rotfl::rotfl:

Thank you to Sally for posting the link to the Zapper site, I had tried other sites but they weren't interested in them, so pleased to have read this thread.
