Dear all,
A quick query. The annual policy on my car runs out on 1/1/12. I bought a new car yesterday and I get it on the 14th of Jan. Admiral will cover me but the price is astronomical compared with others. I need short term and inexpensive cover for my vectra to get me to the 14th. Any suggestions?

Well Kev, you can play the game of 'cooling off period'. Take out a policy on the 1st, checking its rules on cancellation, then cancel it within 14 days. You will be charged the cancellation fee but not the insurance for the period.
I've been looking at a similar situation myself... it works out cheaper to do this than to buy temporary insurance from Tempcover or similar.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

There is a catch though!
(If there is any claim against the policy)0 -
Why not take out a policy with one of the others you mention on 1st jan and do a change of vehicle when you get the new car.
Some insurers let you do alterations online at no charge. Just choose the one thats best for both cars.0 -

Yes - well remembered... it's fine as long as you're happy for your 'excess' to be the total policy cost + cancellation fee. Personally yeah, I'll take that risk for a fortnight just to stay within the law.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0
