The main reason to avoid a P&O is that they still allow smoking on their balconies unlike most of the other cruise lines.0

Is that strictly true? (I am happy to be corrected). I have been on RCI and Cunard in the last 18 months and both allowed smoking on balconies, so I am not sure P&O are in the minority are they? I guess policies might have changed in recent months. The smoking was one thing I did not like on RCI sailing out of Barcelona as they allowed smoking in sections of the bar on royal promenade.0 -
No, I was exaggerating with some wishful thinking, most of the Carnival brand allow smoking on Balconies.
The only CruiseLine I would pay for a balcony is on Celebrity where smoking is definately not allowed.
I long for the day when smoking is banned completely.0 -
We are now booked!!!! In the end though Bolsover were brilliant to deal with, gave good advice and a good price we have gone with Virgin. I posted the costings here on the travel agent "Beat This Quote" section and they beat it by £500. Virgin were also good to deal with and professional so it purely came down to saving money.
The research and the deciding were hard work (made so much easier by this forum) but feel we have got a good price and can't wait to go. SADLY a very large cruise ship has just sunk - eeek better not think about that!!
Thanks to everyone for the excellent advice.0 -

I didn't realise it was banned on Celebrity - that's great and gives us another reason to try them out

Princess have now banned smoking on balconies. Expect other Carnival companies to follow suit.0

You can check the current Smoking Policies on various Websites. Princess Cruises (Carnival) have banned Balcony smoking from TODAY
(15 Jan 2012), but I have reservations sailing with any Carnival brand, more so after recent events.0
