Keeping up appearances.......

Shout out for Keeping Up Appearances!
- A spendy day, but things like bread flour and potting compost, so food investment stuff.
- Zero alcohol.
- Sultanas, peas. Seriously missed my target
- Four mugs of fruit tea.
- I ate a sliver of the leftover pudding from Sunday. No excuse.
- At least three hours Flying but I don't seem to be able to say what I did.
- Checked my favourite Rescue site several times for updates on four dogs they have, any of which could be 'The One' but there's no news on them. Sent a card to one of the Rescues I had one from in the past.
- No business.
- Yes spider.

Here I am! It's been a mad couple of days. I have kept to all my targets except the alcohol one
. Young Master H had a meal on Sunday with friends, at the same pub myself and Mr H we went to a while back. You know, the one where they give you a free bottle of wine with your over-priced meal? He's not a wine fan so brought it home for me as my Mother's Day pressie (I am teaching him my frugal ways
). Unfortunately the restaurant staff had opened the bottle at the table, so I couldn't save it
. Drank half on Monday, a third on Tuesday and will finish off the dribbles tonight. It was pleasant enough, but I would have been just as happy with a hot orange juice.
My other son-related news is that he has been head-hunted for a job - on the other side of the world! He has to submit a CV which he will do today, and of course he might not be offered the job, but what a boost to his confidence. Not bad money, but he has to check the cost of living there before getting excited, so lots of research to do.
And then my other news is our flood! The toilet pipe (inlet fortunately) developed a serious leak and loads of water came through the kitchen ceiling below. Luckily we were home to notice; if we'd been at work or asleep it would have taken the ceiling down. So Mr H has done a temporary repair and we will have to have to pay for a plumber. Grrr.
Got to dash, supposed to be working, back later.LBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!

Huge congratulations to Master Happy for being approached. If he's been spotted by one head-hunter, he's on the radar which bodes well for the future. I hope the process is as exciting as it sounds from here - I love living virtually vicariously!
Bummer about the plumber. It'll sound wrong, but I'm relieved that your silence was something fixable because silences always concern me. Spendy for you, though, which is irritating. At least, as you say, it happened while you were there and the damage was limited.
I reckon a bottle of Mothering Sunday wine = a few hobnobs, a couple of packets of fruit pastilles and my leftover pudding snaffling. Onward and upward!Better is good enough.0 -
- Managed to get through the day without parting with coins or folding stuff. Rather a novelty for me at the moment.
- Zero alcohol.
- Sultanas, parsnips, beetroot juice, apricots, leeks, peas.
- Four mugs of fruit tea.
- I ate [STRIKE]a sliver[/STRIKE] the rest of the leftover pudding from Sunday. [STRIKE]No excuse[/STRIKE]. Like Everest, it was there - and now it's not.
- Laundry shuffle.
- Checked my favourite Rescue site several times - nothing new.
- No business.
- Yes spider.

Thanks both. Unfortunately it's not New Zealand, which is a shame as that would make a lovely visit/holiday destination for proud mothers. His CV is with the potential employer now, but of course there's a good chance that's the last he'll hear from them. Either way, good that he's been approached

Hmm, I seem to have had a rubbish couple of days on the old targets. Spending has been fine and I've not played much Words, but the rest has been a bit of a poor show! Although actually I have still done better than in a normal month so I suppose it's not a complete wash-out.
Definitely got to get some cleaning done because my parents are coming for a visit at the weekend and I don't want my mum thinking she's raised a slob! Funny how that still matters even though I'm 56
Honey, I see you're doing well with the fruit tea - are you still finding it's having the positive mood effect? I hope so
Right, I am on it again, starting from NOW!

I console myself, Happy Now, with the thought that if I weren't keeping you company I'd have scoffed a lot more rubbish, drunk a lot less fruit tea and probably spent quite a bit more money etc etc. I'm not hitting all my targets but at least I'm conscious of making the effort to stay on track. The no sugar in Lent thing is turning into an epic fail; the fruit tea thing is a real discovery. It's not exactly a mood thing; I have never had any stamina but at least the day after I drink enough liquid I'm not completely mired in exhaustion.
- Pfft. Milk etc bought, so not wasted but also not a No Spend Day.
- Zero alcohol.
- Beetroot juice, apricots, sweet potato, courgette, peas.
- Four mugs of fruit tea.
- Jamaica Ginger cake was there - and now it's not. And someone had to quality control the batch of Twink's hobnobs, didn't they?
- Bathroom half-swabbed.
- Checked my favourite Rescue site several times - nothing new. Phoned and talked to someone very helpful and found out enough to decide I'd like to apply to foster for them, so I started that ball rolling.
- No business.
- Yes spider.

- Only spent money on postage, so that was good.
- Zero alcohol.
- Sultanas, beetroot juice, apricots, dhal, courgette, peas.
- Three mugs of fruit tea *oops*
- OH wasn't around to make my porridge first thing, so breakfast was a small selection from the hobnob jar, and so was tea, but that wasn't such a 'small' selection. *ooooops*
- Kitchen cupboard cupboard and appliance fronts wiped down.
- Checked my favourite Rescue site several times - nothing new.
- Phone calls, letters, and visit to local retailer for top up order.
- Spider was played, but only after I'd finished an epic letter.

Been a busy few days around here and I haven't had chance to post. Turns out that not posting isn't good for me! I've gone a bit off the spending and junk food eating rails.....
. Nothing too serious, but I want to get back on track now.
- Payday on Saturday and all the bills are covered plus £1100 paid off the unsecured debts. I love payday. I will need to be very frugal to get through the month on the money we have left. Additional spends were a new dog bed (essential - the current one stinks and has gone all flat and manky), pressies for Miss Happy's birthday, and both cars to insure (been saving via YNAB for that for a couple of months).
- No alcohol today but I had most of a bottle of wine over the weekend. Split over three nights though so no hangover.
- Five portions of F & V today but I didn't manage it over the weekend.
- A disgusting amount of chocolate and cake eaten. It was all lovely
- Drank loads of water, all that chocolate and wine makes me thirsty
- House all cleaned and tidied because of the parental visit on Saturday. It will now gradually get messier as the week goes on. Shame really, I do like it tidy.
- Played a few games of Words but I've been a bit too busy, plus both of my playmates (daughter and mum) have been here with me most of the time!
