finding the money! thats the difference

If you would rather the LL take it from the deposit, then agree it at the time. I am sure so long as they know you are covering the cost, they wouldn't have a problem.

The bad paying history relates to tenant, not the property, same as a bad credit rating belongs to the person, not the address which they live in.

Prepayment meters can be fitted to recover debt when tenants fall into arrears. Once tenant moves on, debt goes with them!

I beg to differ, I had 1 of my properties let and the options for the new tenants were to have a prepayment meter installed or a upfront payment made to elec company because of a previous tenants unpaid bill, this payment would be deduct from their outstanding bills after 6 months.
ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.

You now also need a code ( mac code) when changing phone/broadband providers and this may prove difficult if you dont know the old supplier
  • Always take the inventory seriously, and take photos, and keeo any conversations by email/in writing. The letting agents do sound out of their depth, but they should give the money back fast - but never quickly enough for impoverished tenants, who are effectively having to have wait until the one deposit is given back before paying the next, which can add up to thousands.
  • luckily we have money aside for our next deposit. So its not needing the money thats the problem. It would just be nice to know if we are getting the full lot back instead of waiting months for the utility companies to send us final bills. We are transferring our phone and BB to our new house so the current house will be left without a phone line as it was when we moved in. I have wrote them a letter to the LA saying what was advised previously so will see what happens. The only final bill we are waiting for now is the council tax, but dont see why that matters because we are moving to another house so will carry on paying from there.

In my Local Authotity, we dont issue nil bills due to the costs, and I believe that this is common practice throughout the country.

So you are unlikely to receive a bill to say there is no council tax due on the property you have left.

I changed energy provider, twice, to get off a prepayment meter.
Despite not missing a payment for anything, ever.

I can understand a landlord being careful.
