Help choosing a fridge freezer

Options
Now the holidays are coming to an end my OH has said that I can get a fridge freezer. I have not had a freezer before so it is very exciting and I can't wait to be able to enjoy icecream :) as well as reducing the waste in food.

The budget I have is:
£80 Comet vouchers (from work)
£160 Cash (Gift from family)

Total £240 (if calculations are correct)

The one we have seen is this one:

http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Fridge-Freezers/buy-SAMSUNG-RL43THCTS-Fridge-Freezer/721344

however if doesn't auto defrost. How important is it to auto defrost. I don't want to spend a small fortune on this to find that it isn't ideal or we have to replace it in a few months/years.

Any help or advise is gratefully received.
Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500
Competition wins 2015 = £1400

    Kittenpie,

My fridge/freezer doesn't have auto defrost. I simply run the food stock down every 6 months and switch it off and defrost it that way.

If you are going to buy online, use a cashback website too, like Quidco.

Edit: I couldn't find it any cheaper, boots had it in at £230 plus £19.99 delivery. If I was looking for a new fridge freezer I buy this one.

Thanks Merlot, I did have a look through the review website which is how I noticed the defrost setting. I currently have to defrost our fridge every now and then as it builds up with ice (more likely due to its age) so hopefully won't be any different just didn't want to have to defrost it every month as I can see that being a right pain.

Unfortunately have to use comet as we have vouchers. Will definitely look on Quidco, thanks for reminding me :)

  • Kitten, I just read my post back, I meant to say I would buy the fridge freezer, I didn't mean I would buy it from Boots. Late night. Sorry for the confusion.

I have found it in next for £230 and also have £80 next vouchers so will research cashback and delivery costs before purchasing but think I will go for it. It has been too long without a freezer and I need to enter the real world. :) Thanks for your help

  • Kitten, You could alway sell one of the set of vouchers on Ebay, you can get upto 95% of the value. I do it all the time, especially if I have no use for them. Every little helps.;)

so much to think of, the comet vouchers are for a number of shops so might see if I could use those at next too and save more money. (Didn't think of this before)

The fridge you've linked to in the opening post is automatic defrost on the fridge - but the freezer is not frost free. So you won't need to worry about the fridge, but as kitten_pie says, the freezer will need doing a couple of times a year.
