mis-sold pc???

in august i bought a "gaming" pc for my son, Not knowing anything about computers or gaming computers I asked for the advice of the sales person who took me through all the ins and outs (totally foreign to me!!) He showed me a pc which he assured me "was perfect and wouldnt need upgrading for a long time, totally future proof and upgradeable, perfect for gaming due to graphics card and powers supply capabilies it was just exactly what my son would need." 4 months in and getting my son games for xmas it turnd out what he told me was a load of twaddle!! My son cannot play anything but low grade games and when we looked into the reasoning with a local computer repairs firm who we know and have dealt with for a long time it turns out that the particular model is not upgradeable due to the slim line model, he needs to buy a new casing, the graphics card is one of the most mediocre around and it will be a minimum of £150 for a new card and the power supply is 200 and to play the games and support the graphics card that he needs the power supply should be 700!! altogether to make the pc suitable for what I originally went into the shop and asked for and as far as I was aware I had bought it is going to cost my son over £300 to do.
Im fuming and feel like ive been well and truly had- but can I do anything about it?? Im going into the store tomorrow to let them know how unhappy I am about it but do I have any kind of rights in regard to being sold something I didnt actually want or ask for??
(This may sound a bit gobbledy gook im afraid as Im still unsure of all the technical terms im just trying to remember all the "blurb" my son and the computer shop told me )

....I'm guessing you bought it from PC world?
...700W for graphic's card is total overkill - 450-500w power supply should suffice for last gen gaming cards not run on SLi or CrossFire.0 -
it was best buy that i bought it from, apparently hes (my son) just said to me that the power supply is for the graphics card and processor and everything else and he said his graphics card need 500 - its still all greek to me!!!0

I know I should have done but they make pcs from scratch and it would have taken a while and also he was off on his summer hols and I wanted it for my sons birthday and also needed to use finance, but he really sounded like he knew what he was on about and was one of the "geek squad"0

I used to work for the Geek Squad, they should have known their stuff.
However with Best Buy closing down imminently in the UK, you might be out of luck.0 -
One of the main problems you will have is the fact that best buy are in the process of going belly up.0

After 4 months, realistically you don't have a leg to stand on I'm afraid. Swallow your pride, and get your local expert to upgrade it.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

pride isnt an issue - ive been to my local and asked about upgrading already which is how i found out all the pap I was told when I bought it, im going to go and complain and figured after 4 months it wouldnt do much good but im so miffed about it i want to let them know what I now know and how i feel about it and i just wondered if anybody knew any rights i *may* have had as what i was sold wasnt fit for the purpose of which i bought it for and did not match with what I was told it was. even if they offered to upgrade it for less than it will cost my son to do otherwise would be something of a gesture. I now they are going belly up and its probably a complete wastre of my time but hey im sure stranger things have happened!!0

Although you might be able to argue the product is not fit for purpose, unless you can prove the details of your conversation at the time you're stuffed. Being as they are closing down there is no customer service incentive for them to help you either. You got done, happens to the best of us.0

However, a 4 month old PC should still have a respectable resale value - it will probably be cheaper to sell it and buy a new machine that can handle what your son wants, than to try and upgrade the one you have.0
