Laptop purchase help

Hope someone has a good recommendation for me!

I'm replacing my laptop soon. Can anyone recommend a laptop which doesn't overheat?! I am fed up with my laptop (hp one) becoming too hot to the touch in places just from normal day-to-day use (though is admittedly worse when ripping CDs etc).

All I use it for is surfing internet, downloading and playing music, watching DVDs and using Word and Excel.

I am not too bothered about price.

Have you ever bothered cleaning out the fan and heatsink? Do you block up the fan intake when you're using it?

I'm taking from the 'have you ever bothered' choice of phrase that this is something that is obvious to do? No I haven't - didn't know I should be and don't know how. Will research now.

I don't block the fan intake - it's always on a hard surface.

Laptops use little fans to force air through heatsinks. Over time the fans and the channels the air goes though get furred up with fluff and stuff, reducing airflow and making the laptop run really hot. Sometimes they even go into thermal shutdown if they sense that they are getting hot enough for damage to occur.

You'll need a little screwdriver, and possibly a canister of compressed air. FInd a good guide to disassembly and it should be too hard to do. Might put off that purchase another year or so, if overheating is your only complaint with your current laptop.
