MOT advice

Hi

Someone on here the other day mentioned something about a part of a car not being tested if its not presented (i think it was the back seats and seatbelts). I replied asking a question but have lost track of that topic..

So, what I'd like to know is, if a car has a dead engine, can it still be MOT'd even if they can't test the emissions etc?

We've a car that needs to go on the road to stop people attacking it on the drive (weird setup) but the bloody thing is currently dead and SORN. I can't do anything to it at the moment but would just like to make it legal to sit on the road.

It wouldn't fail, but they couldn't test it and pass it, so refusal to test.
It would be the same if the drivers seat was missing, rather than the back seat.
  • It'd fail a brake test anyway.

It wont fail the brake test if the tester pushes the brake pedal hard enough. Servo only assists. Makes it easy to
    press for wimps.

Braking performance should not be affected by disconnecting the servo. Just heavier to apply.

But if they cannot drive it in and out then they will refuse to test it. Have you watched them MOT a car?

For the brake test they drive it onto some rollers, The wheels drop between 2 of them. You wont want to be
    pushing that back out.

Need to get it running properly. If its dead then why not sell it?

Nope, never watched it done.. but thats a bummer! I guess I'll have to get the thing fixed or put a camera to catch the little ****s that keep attacking it.

Reason its not up for sale is I've put a lot of work into it. Its one of those cars you become attached to and even though I'm out of work its cost nothing to leave it sat on the drive sorn. Its worth peanuts anyway and seeing as the other car has recently given up the ghost it may be brought back into service sooner than planned.

Following your idea to it's natural conclusion, why not just go to the MOT station without the car at all and request an MOT for it???
