Gas Safe Registration

Options
Hi all,

I'm a bit worried about getting my work gas safe registered. Had a new boiler, central herating system and oven hob installed. Went through all the appropriate procedures to get a tradesman etc. Checked he was on gas safe etc - which he was. The work has been done but not registered after a few reminders from me now. His registration has now ran out, and I am worried that it won't get done. I need it to sign my house off.

Any advice please?
Thanks

But presumably you have not paid him the balance owed without sight of the paperwork?
If he's no longer GSR, then I don't see how he can certify it now.

  • Yes I paid him when the work was done. I did pay by bank transfer, and have records of emails back and forth / discovery of my job on a workman website. I think he will renew his membership as it's a big part of his work, but I want it registering.

He told me he can back date up to two months for his work when his membership runs out. He's done some work recently which I've not paid the labour for - just the parts. I really don't want it to get messy obviously.

So insist he provides the paperwork within the week.

Otherwise (and sorry to appear brutal) but he "was GSR but now I've allowed it to expire" stinks like a ten day corpse. You cannot afford to take any risks with gas installations and the whole point of the Register in the first place was to drive the cowboys out of the industry.

    0800 408 5500 if he can't / won't do the paperwork.

    Cheers

I do fully agree. I've emailed and spoke to him a few times now. I didn't know it was going to run out! Otherwise I'd never have let this happen as I try to be as cautious as possible. I emailed him tonight and I'll call him tomorrow. There's work still to complete at my house. What a pickle! :(:o

Forget email or phoning, you've already done that and he has ignored you. Write to him by registered post giving him 7 days to comply or say that you will report him to GSR, TS etc..
In future don't pay the balance until the job is completed-that includes the paperwork.

Let's say in the event things turn really sour. Could I pay someone else to come and do a gas check and sign it all off?

    Surely that's possible?

No sane GSR will sign off someone else's work as his own. It's not the same as a safety check. Anyone signing it off then takes 100% responsibility for all aspects of that install.

I've spoke to him today and he said he registered it this morning. But I called GSR earlier (not to check on him) and he hasn't. I've just got a feeling this is not going to work out well!!! :(

You've already been advised as to the best course of action-put it in writing today by reg post giving him 7 days.

I would do that, though it's not an option as I don't have the new address! yes I know - this is really bad and leads to more suspicion, though I didn't know they'd move :( Trust me I try to be absolutely sure about stuff - people think I'm too picky! And it still bites me on the bum! :(
