EDF-leaving due to serious credit balance

I've decided to leave EDF because they have taken much more money than i have used in credit. Despite several emails to request a credit refund they haven't responded. Does anybody know what happens to my credit balance when I transfer to Co-operative - will it be a cheque or transfer to co-op? My worry is that by transferring EDF will stall further as my leverage (as a user) has gone. EDF were great up to 6 months ago but have exposed themselvs as another rip off merchant.

To answer your direct question, the balance will not transfer to the new supplier. It will be paid to you by Edf, whether by cheque or direct credit I am not certain.

You are entitled by supply regulations to request a credit refund and the supplier must either comply or explain why not. A failure to do either would be grounds for a formal complaint in accordance with the Edf complaints procedure.

Regarding your "tactics", whatever your desired outcome, I suggest you give phoning a try. Recently, particularly weekday mornings, wait times have come down. You could either try for a credit refund, a payment reduction or a combination of both. If you get a reduction and/or a credit refund you can still switch - if that is what you want to to.

I see no reason not to switch to a more competitive tariff as indicated by a comparison website.
  • Thx for the advice jalexa. All that sounds highly logical.

Have you given them actual reads? If not this maybe a reason for none refund
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

This assumes that you are not still in a minimum term contract with EDF?

[RANT]Why oh why do people (and not just the OP) seem to think that firing emails at a company this size is going to get them any results. Its like a mouse climbing the hindleg of an elephant planning rape. You really need to communicate withy them in a much more formal manner or you are dead in the water and don't exist. Telephone calls are undeniable too as they record them all.[/RANT]
