Kayleighpea's 2012 Adventures and Debt-Busting Fun!

Hi all and welcome to my diary for 2012!
Debt busting has well and truly been on the back burner for me in 2011 as my friend who lives in Australia is getting married and has invited me out to be bridesmaid :j I fly out on the 7th Jan 2012 and am away for 3 fabulous weeks
Fantastic but has meant that any spare penny I have earnt (or found!) has gone straight into an ISA or gone on my flights, and I have done nothing to help my debts and in fact they have got worse!
So as soon as I am back from hols I am getting straight onto getting this debt sorted. I hate the idea that I am going backwards! The only debt I am doing well on is the credit card that is in my dad's name - I am paying off a steady £150 a month to this card and last month got to the halfway point so have now paid off more than what is left
Still a long way to go though.
I have redone my snowball calculator just now and whereas at the beginning of last year my DFD was 2015 this has now made a huge jump to Feb 2018!!
Amazing how debt can creep up and you don't even notice it.
So maybe I should have started this diary when I get back as there is no way I'm going to be worrying about my debt while I'm holiday (!) but if it is here waiting for me then perhaps it will encourage me to get on with it sooner when I'm home. Nevertheless I am going to my enjoy my time away as much as possible and not let the debt stop me doing the things I want, but if I can come back with a bit left over then it will be a nice start for me.
Hopefully some of you will give me the encouragement I need to keep my going - I think having such a huge expense right at the beginning of the year is going to make it tough to cut right back for the rest of it and it really doesn't take a lot for me to throw in the towel and give up so I will need plenty of kicks up the backside to watch my spending! :rotfl:

Have a fab time & worry about it when you get back

Enjoy the wedding and get down to the debt busting when you get back.
When you get back throw as much money to the credit card you've been paying and get it paid off I always felt like I had achieved something when I got rid of a debt and then it frees up more money to throw at your other debts.
Have a fab time in Australia

Afternoon diary land!
Feeling quite productive MSE wise today - not that I'm being productive in any other way, it's 3.30pm and i'm still in my pj's on the sofa with my duvet!! But I have signed up to a few challenges - £2 coin savers, £365 in 365 for one of my overdrafts and £2012 in 2012 for my Halifax CC. So like I said, even if I can't do much about it in January I will have all these waiting for me to get on with when I am back!
Also from the weekly email I noticed a section about checking on old unused Tesco vouchers and found that I have £6 hanging around in Internet land so have promptly printed those off for New Years Eve drinkies
Going to do a bit of searching around for Travel Insurance now for my hols - really should have sorted this sooner - oopsies!2019 will be my year!!0 -
Evening all!
Had one hell of a spending day today! Spent 4 hours down town picking through every shop I could find for holiday bits and bobs. Which was good because I finally found some shorts I can squeeze into for wandering around Sydney
(from Primarni no less so only a fiver!) but then kind of broke the bank by spending a whopping £70 in Boots! Having gone through everything I've bought again though this eve it is all stuff I need so I feel it is justified.
Plus as I got a tax rebate a couple of weeks ago I just keep telling myself it is the tax man's present to me! :rotfl:2019 will be my year!!0 -
How kind of the Tax man!!!
You must be so excited about Australia.
Can I just ask? If you haven't added to your debt massively, why has your debt free date changed so radically? Nearly 2.5 years seems a bit crazy. I bet you can bring that back down in no timeEst. debt free day April 2016 (ish) Debt at June 2010 £34,247.13Debt at Dec 2011 £27,499.09 (19.7% paid off)Working together with DH on our debts (twindad07)Long haulers supporters DFW #2560 -
Well I have added to the debt a bit in the last year - the H'fax overdraft and H'fax credit card have both been increased and I also went over the limit for the CC a couple of times so bang went the 0% introductory rate

I'm sure I'll be able to bring the DFD back down though once I start cutting back and paying more than the minimums again. Fingy's crossed anyway!2019 will be my year!!0 -
Ahh - I didn't realise you lose the 0% if you go over - shows how long it has been since I have been eligible for a 0% card!!!

Hey
Found your diary :jyou'll have a fab time at the wedding and while you may have added to you debt a little you'll have some great memories. Which may not be the attitude, but it sounds good to me
.
I know there is also a website which is supposed to find any old bank accounts you may have, so not sure if that would apply? Might be worth checking.
