I employed someone once in my home office and I was stunned by a few comments of friends who said that I should be nervous of my employee as I would leave him in the house alone often while I was out. I never had a problem with him. He had access to the whole house computers and accounts everything.

I did however, employ a cleaner once for a few hours a week and after she left, I found a few items had gone missing from the office. Nothing of great value - maybe £30 total. It would not put me off hiring someone again., but would trust my instincts more when hiring them as this cleaner phoned enquiring about the cleaner job the first thing she said was "I can get references". I thought it a bit puzzling at the time why this was such a big issue. You live an learn.

    Oh, come off it!

From what the OP had written, I took it that they wanted someone who could use their computer to book them a holiday, and surely you know what that entails?

    What does it entail?

Well any time I've booked a holiday it has involved inputting quite a lot of personal information including credit card details.

Would you really entrust that to some random 'odd-job man'?
