How much to pay and where to find someone to do odd jobs

I'm thinking of looking for someone to do 4 hours per week on a casual basis - basically odd jobs around the house and some PC work (eg internet searches etc).
How much do you think I would need to pay and where could I find someone reliable?
Thanks!

I think you need to give more information on what type of work this person will be doing as "odd jobs" generally means handyman fixing things and maybe doing a bit of gardening and does not include PC work. Also what type of person will be doing it. Will it be a graduate out of a job or someone retired etc. Will it be someone you know or have you advertised it in a shop window or on the internet?0

I guess that is a bit general, but I'm not really looking for any specific skill set, more someone that could take care of most of the everyday household or other tasks that most of us encounter in running our own life and home. It could be anything from helping me book a holiday, mow the lawn, change a lightbulb, find a few car insurance quotes. Basically someone who can take my list of 101 things that need done and make some good inroads. At the moment my list of general todos is getting a bit oout of control with too little time.
I don't really care whether that person is 16, 60, a student or whatever, I'm only concerned with whether or they are trustworthy, efficient and able to undertake most ad-hoc jobs that crop up in a busy person's life. Having said that I'd imagine a student looking for a bit of weekend cash would be a good fit.
I haven't found anyone yet, hence why I'm asking where to look.

Hmmmm..... I think you are going to have trouble finding someone to fill all your requirements, unless you are willing to offer reasonable money. I'm sure most students will be able to change the odd bulb, do the laundry, cut the grass, internet work etc. It'll be whether or not they will be experienced enough to do it to a competent degree? Not saying that students are inept, but they haven't exactly got much experience in running a household?
Anyone with a bit of experience will have their own house to run/ a job of their own? Maybe I'm wrong?DFW'ers photography comp member no. 60 -

What you have described is really a personal assistant or housekeeper/butler. It would be difficult to get such a person to work just four hours a week.
If you only want a few hours a weeks, then, I suggest breaking the job into tasks which are recognisable as a job, such as gardening or cleaning or maybe even accounts or diary-keeping and get someone just to do one of the tasks for 2 hours a week and then expand the number of tasks according to the person and your needs.0 -
Find a way to identify individual jobs and find someone who does those.
e.g
Find a gardener to mow your lawn as and when needed.
The other stuff is a bit too non-specific, and potentially open-ended - "book a holiday" could take ages, depending on your needs, and would require so much input from you that it is unlikely to save you any time; the same goes for insurance quotes.
Maybe find another area you can "out-source" e.g ironing - lots of people who will do that for a fee.
Once you've eliminated a few jobs from your schedule, you should have time for the miscelania. (sp?)

No way should you have anyone you don't know doing things like booking a holiday because you would have to give them too much information which they might be tempted to use to their advantage, eg. they book you away for a wk. in July, then rob your house while you're away!:D0

I have sent you a PM.0

Is the dentist going to rifle yer pockets after putting you out?
Is the Heart Surgeon taking a coffee break and leaving you on a machine?
I bet you ask a reciept for a Happy meal, just in case you dont get a toy.0 -

Oh, come off it!
From what the OP had written, I took it that they wanted someone who could use their computer to book them a holiday, and surely you know what that entails?0
