Hi everyone
Hope you all had a good Christmas! Forgive me if I am in the wrong section.
Basically I am after some advice. We bought my Mother in Law a camera in September to give to her for Christmas while we had the money. It was bought from Best Buy.
When she opened the box on Christmas day, she found that the screen on the camera was cracked.
My hubby took it back to Best Buy today with the receipt, original packaging etc and they basically said they can't do anything as it's past 30 days, and that they are closing down soon, so we need to contact the manufacturer (and reading between the lines, the manufacturer would probably say it was accidental damage even though she hasn't even used it, so we would need to pay to repair it).
So needless to say we are livid. Hubby rang a consumer helpline and said we are within our rights to get a replacement so hubby then rang Best Buy and repeated what he was told (i.e. his rights) who were again useless and refused to help and ended up putting the phone down in him.
Any advice on who else we can get in touch with to get this sorted? It doesn't seem fair at all. We didn't think to open the box to check it was all ok as we didn't want to unpack everything as it's a gift.
Thanks in advance.
