MONEY MORAL DILEMMA: Should Scott take Charlene's ad?

scott is not responsible for charlene's ethical decisions, scott is only responsible for his own.
if he feels the ad is dodgy and dodgy isn't right for his business, he could offer charlene a choice - that she either amend the ad to mention the £300 charge or that she find somewhere else to place it.
ps: i love the kitschy 1980s "neighbours" reference!Boyfriend & I have saved £12K in two years, thanks to careful budgeting and keeping a record of what we spend. I've never paid myself this amount of money before - it feels great!0 -
If scott thinks its unethical then he should probably stick with that reason and if charlene is a friend she will understand that everyone has a different opinion

Well Scott won't want his regular customer ripped off and linking the scam to an Ad in his shop. He should ask her to alter the poster if possible to highlight the charges involved for the photos as a compromise. If she disagree's then its her refusing to do something and he will find it easier to say no.0

Scott shouldn't put up the poster unless Charlene pays, even a reduced rate for a friend, as he is not a charity and is probably not running his business for fun, buit to pay the bills and put food in the table. Friends need to realize that they need to put in a small aount to cover costs at least otherwise he could fill his window with all his friends ads and make no money from real paying customers.0

Brockyman, I completely agree with your post - people don't realise how much time and effort things take, especially with something like photography when everyone thinks they can do it themselves these days with a digital camera and a copy of photoshop.
My sister is a photographer, and when you see the amount of work and skill and the hours she spends editing her photos, I think £300 for a set of fabulous photos is more than fair. In fact, compared to some photographers, it's quite a bargain.
I think the point is, if it was a hard sell, and the customer felt forced into buying the photos, then that would be wrong.0 -
This is easy.
1)If you believe it's wrong - IT'S WRONG. A friend should accept your position - if they are a friend.
2) If it is wrong, it's going to impact on your business as it will reflect what sort of business you run.0 -
If Scott is uncomfortable with the ad, he should explain it to Charlene - if she really cares for him then she would not insist on his doing something that he thinks is morally wrong.
From the commercial perspective, if his business relies in customers trusting him then displaying the ad on his premises will get him associated with the sharp practice that results from it - not good for business !!0 -

Ian.
They do, and so did I, until I started running my own business and realised how much everything cost and that my time was the most expensive of all!:D0 -
If he isn't comfortable with the ad, he doesn't have to accept it. It's that simple.
I managed a newsagent's for a year before I went to university and I didn't accept cards for the window if I had doubts about the service they were offering. For instance, I refused an ad for dodgy slimming pills and one for a pyramid selling type scheme.0
