  • I do this but am careful to make sure who I give them to. Luckily I like most things I get though. This year my daughter recycled some chocolate she got from an admirer (who she isn't at all keen on and didn't like his chocolate choice either.) to her dad.:D My DH can eat chocolate for England so was a good person to give it to.

Both my Mum and my MIL recycle the gifts I give them. I know they do it because last year my Mum gave MIL a toiletry set I had given her the year before to MIL. This year MIL gave a different set that looks very familiar to my mum.:rotfl:

I tend to buy both Mums a range of smaller gifts rather than one big one. My MIL is very tactless when she doesn't like something and at least if it is something smaller I don't feel I have wasted too much money. If I hedge my bets and get a range of things then I should get something she likes amongst them!

I just recycled a gift! I got a lipgloss set from my Mum that was very cute but I wasn't mad on the flavours and knew that they'd sit in a drawer all year until I binned them, so I passed it onto a friend who I exchanged gifts with yesterday!

I'm good at remembering who bought me what so I've never had the shame of giving a gift back to the giver thankfully... but I've had a couple of things off MIL over the years which I remember giving to her for Christmasses and Birthdays past! :p

I have no problem with re-gifting or recycling - some things I've gotten over the years are just not really me so I've passed them on to people who DO like those kinds of things :)
If I did give something to someone and they didn't like it I'd rather they recycled it too than left it to gather dust or whatever :) Just so long as they don't ask me for a receipt PMSL that could be tricky as most pressies are bought in sales ;)

  • im quite well known for it amongst a close number of family members :rotfl:

I do normally seperate toiletry sets into hampers or make towel cakes out of unwanted towel bales so i disguise it well :D

In fact those few family members who know my tricks even come to me for help and advise re regifting - we have also been know to swap items to regift ;) waste not want not!!!
  • Personally I hate giving toiletry gift sets - am I the only one!?! I think they are so overpriced for a few bits in a big box and dont look as if much thought has gone into them. I don't use half the stuff in them either. Maybe I stink as I seem to get quite a few of them. I save them, use them in pamper cakes, give to charity and school fair etc.... I see nothing wrong with regifting at all :) I've not messed up so far lol
  • I regift and would prefer the recipients of my own gifts, to regift rather than be stuck with a gift they didnt like or want.

On the otheer hand, my mother, who is usually fairly tactful, has returned gifts to me saying that i might know someone who would like it or use it instead. But the other day she asked me what do about one kf the gifts my bro had bought here...she asked me if she should give it back to him as she would not use the gift and he might know someone else who would use it....to which i replied that although bro would probably accept the returned gift, it could be upsetting to have a gift returned to the giver. Thankfully she didnt mentio this to him when she saw him the other day!
