Unwanted Promotional Mailings

Options
I've been trying to cut down on the amount of mail I get through the door and for the most part I have been very successful.

However, I am still receiving mailings a couple of times a year from an Airline and a football club (who I went to watch as a one off). This is despite speaking to both companies, requesting that they stop sending me letters and being assured that this would happen.

Is there anything I can do next? As far as I can see my options are limited to ringing both the companies again, or sending the letters back to the companies.

If they include a stamped return envelope, mail them a brick back unfranked.

Are you already registered with the MPS? If so, report them.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I'm not registered with the MPS and I don't think that the organisation applies in this case. I've taken this from their website,

"The MPS will not stop mail if you are a customer of a company or have requested information from them in the past."

    Source: mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/complaints

I have used the airline in the past and have bought tickets from the football club in the past. However, I have no intention of using them again and don't want to hear from them.

Strike through your address and write 'Return to sender'. Pop the letter in the post box un-opened.

    They'll soon get the message!
If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button! ;)

    I suggest you:
    1. Address the letter to the "Data Controller"of the organisation. (Just use that title)
    2. send the letter by recorded signed for post as if you do complain to the Information Commissioner it will be very easy to prove they received the letter.

However what normally happens is the company will write to you or ring you up (if you include a day time telephone number) , and apologise for annoying you. They will then remove your details and you will never hear from them again.

The only organisation that took 4 months to actually adhere to this was Oxfam. They made up some excuse why they couldn't take my name of their mailing list immediately. When I stated if I received anything from them again I would immediately report them to the Information Commissioner as I had all their email. Then they stopped.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
