You wont loose to much profit.

I personally, would spend the grands worth of vouchers on gifts back to the people who bought you the new camera. That way, you get the camera you wanted, and they get that games console or new computer etc. they want.

    Everyone is happy then.

However if you don't want to do that, see if you can Buy something from the store with the vouchers, and then return it as an unwanted gift etc. for money.

The replacement camera was a collective gift from my siblings, and to be fair, I have spent the same amount on their gifts as well so didn't make any 'profit' by having the camera bought for me......not that this is the principle of gift giving obviously.

I don't think that a store will give me cash if I return something that I purchased, from previous experiences, shops refund via the same method of original payment. I think?

I guess eBay will be Plan B then, I tried calling the insurers today for an update but was told that someone would return my call. Fingers crossed for a positive reply tomorrow :)

The discussion above does suggest that your insurers are likely to agree to a cash settlement. Should this not happen, I suggest that rather than accepting the vouchers, you make a formal complaint. Should you not get any joy from this within a reasonable amount of time, then involve the Ombudsman. I am confident that you would eventually receive a cash settlement.
  • Can you not ask your siblings for the receipt for the xmas camera gift and return it to the store for a refund. Then use the vouchers to buy the camera?
