Do I need car insurance when im on holiday?

Options
My car is taxed and MOT'ed untill September 2012 and March 2012 respectively.

Car insurance ends in Feb 2012.

I am going abroad on holiday in January 2012 (for 6 weeks).

Do I need to SORN my vehicle?

Or will it be ok to retun in March and get insurance?

It is an offence to have your vehicle uninsured if not SORN'd so my advice is that you shouldn't just leave it until you return.

I think that you can get online quotes more than 30 days in advance from some companies. There's nothing to stop you contacting your insurance company and/or others before you go away, and arranging the insurance before you've gone. Just make sure that if you take it out with another company, you cancel any auto-renewal from your existing car insurer.

Off topic, but if your house is going to be empty during your absence, have you made arrangements to ensure that your house insurance isn't invalidated by you being away for more than 30 days?

    What the person above said.
Also I suggest you get someone to turn over the engine for you occasionally while you are away.

How much will you save if you do not insure it? Is it worth the hassle? You run the risk of your car being stolen or damaged whilst you are on holiday. IMHO it would be easier and safer to insure it whilst you are away.
