Went into Game yesterday (big mistake, queue was halfway up the shop and it was chaos, but I digress), and my partner saw Champ Manager 2012 reduced to £19.99. Lots on the shelf, but they all had a Pre-order sticker on them. We thought it was a mistake or they had put out stock that had been displayed before it was released, so we joined the mega queue.
Eventually we got to the front, only to be told that the game wasn't in stock and that's why they had put the pre-order stickers on them. Barely go into Game, is this common practice for them? I would have thought that they would have taken the game off the shelf and replaced it with something that was in stock, rather than trying to confuse customers.
ETA: See it's £14.99 on Amazon, will order it from there instead.

What's so confusing about having a pre order sticker on them. It tells you you need to well pre order it.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

Because the game has been out for ages, partner had been looking at getting it for weeks, so therefore, it wasn't a pre-order."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Pre-ordering is not just for new games, you can Pre-order for when new stock comes in, if an item is currently out of stock.
Pre-order = order before. In this case, not order before release but order before stock arrival. If the game is cheap, and is likely to sell out quickly, then people get the chance to reserve a copy from the next lot of stock coming in. Seems perfectly logical to me0 -
I've never heard pre-order used in any case other than an order before the release date. Surely if it's already been released but is out of stock then it's just a plain order.0

Me either, the only time I've heard of it is if a game isn't out yet."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

We used to do it at Gamestation. If you wanted pre-order a game that we had no stock of, we took your name and a contact number, and called when it was in stock and reserved a copy for you.
Either way, the game said "pre-order" on it, and you were told you could pre-order it for when they had stock. I'm not seeing the issue?0 -
I've been a gamer since I can remember and quickly learnt that GAME is the one stop shop for mums seeking out a video game for their son or daughter as a present. Don't go there, the staff rarely know what they are talking about, they tend to try and sell you stuff you don't want/need and their prices aren't the cheapest. Sadly Game Station is now owned by GAME so their prices tend to be exactly the same, however I find the staff at Game Station to be a bit more knowledgeable.
Go to Amazon if you want the best deals or try Steam. Steam has tons of digital download games such as Assassin Creed for the PC and prices are way better, but if you want them for a console then Amazon (Play.com if you are in a spot of bother) is the place to go. Tesco can also have video games on good discounts if you are lucky.0 -

So what is the difference between a pre-order and an order?0 -
they have done that to me before, left boxes out no pre order sticker on though and spent ages looking for it for me to be told there are none left, wish they would take the empty boxes of the shelfs when they dont have stock inNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. There really isn't one. Essentially, with both, you're placing an order before the store has stock.
They leave dummy boxes out saying "pre order" so people know that Game sell the item, they're currently out of stock, but they will be getting more stock which the customer can reserve0
