Odd situation...

Im in a very odd situation at the moment. I live in a typical student rented flat, its not too bad apart from the paper thin walls. My upstairs neighbour snores like a f&*%!ng hog, really loudly ALL night. Their bedroom is right above mine, so i hear it all night.
It drives me mental, i can hear it over my tv and music and the past few weeks im averaging about 3 hours sleep per night. (great fun at exam time!) Ive taken to jumping up in bed, banging the ceiling and yelling "shut up!!" usually about 3.30am when im particularly tired and frustrated. This is not like me at all and im wondering if i should mention it to the landlord. Though i doubt there is much he can do....
Any comments/suggestions? Has anoyone been in this situation before??

I bought my son travel earplugs when my neighbour had her baby grandson staying! His cot was just the other side of my son's bedroom wall, and his crying regularly woke my son up."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

I know it is easier said than done but try to relax and not let it stress you because that will make it harder to get to sleep. I have noisy housemates and in the past had a nosy room-mate who used to play Slipknot when I was trying to sleep. The best I have come up with is a warm shower to wind down and a relaxing hot drink before I go to bed and some more chilled music on a walkman. It doesn't really drown out the other noises but it provides a more relaxing soundtrack I can focus on instead. You could try getting some high end head-phones too which would block out more of the external noise.0

Ask your upstairs neighbour what time he goes to bed. Then make sure that you go to sleep before then. Once you are asleep you will not hear him/her snoring.0

I must say Earplugs are the way to go. I would not have made it through Uni without them. I did not have a problem with the Fire Alarm as I always heard it through the earplugs (although the alarm was right outside my door)
Failing that everytime your neighbour starts snoring, phone him. When he picks up the phone hang up and race back to your bed. If you fall asleep before he does you won't hear him snoring!:pIf freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0 -
Get some military ear defenders from your local army surplus store.....I'm not kidding! They are amazing.0

Ear-plugs are probably the only way to go. I use them all the time and they block out snoring but I can still hear my alarm clock. Any other type of alarm (eg, fire, burglar) can not be drowned out by ear plugs.
I use foam ones from Boots. Try wearing some and do tests with your alarm clock to see if you can still hear it, that might help put your mind to rest.0 -
