Replacing thermostat help

Options
Hi, I have this thermostat in the hallway that apparently doesn't work - the gas man told me and he said that he'd disconnected it and to only use the radiator to adjust the temperature.
I tried this for a while, but I find it really difficult to achieve a right temperature, so would it be possible to replace the thermostat? Is it straightforward for me to do or do I need to call back the gas man? And could anyone recommend a decent one? Thanks!

Edit to add, it's for central heating...

What is the make and model of the one you currently have? If you can idenfify that then a like for like replacement that utilises the same cabling can be recommended.

    Cheers

Where would the cable be with regards to boiler?

It looks like a Honeywell T6360 or possibly a clone.

So you need a replacement that is mains powered with 3 wire connection. The cable will come into the back of the stat through the wall and then link round to the boiler.

Yes - just make sure the power is off to the circuit first.

You say it's like that one but cheaper. Does the one you have only use two wires? If so, you may not need a three-wire one with an anticipator.

I haven't got a clue! It was here when we moved in.

Looks cheaper and older, no fancy switch on the side like the one in the link, just the temperature dial with Wickes on it!
How do I know if it's three of two wires?
