Contents Insurance

I'm searching about for some contents insurance for my apartment (I don't require buildings insurance) and I am just wondering if anyone has any pointers as to what I need to be aware of when buying a policy?

Thanks in advance!

See a broker if your unsure?

Just ensure that you put down your in a flat, dont under insure your items as they may only pay out a percentage of your claim or not at all.

If you have any high value items (jewellery, picassos, maybe even a TV) let the insurers know - but by high value im talking about probably looking at about £2k plus.

Check the comparison sites but be aware of the excesses.

If you see a couple of quotes that you like, you can click through and normally they will allow you to vary the excess. Sometimes it doesn't make as much difference as you would think.

You can also use this site to compare policies http://www.defaqto.com/compare/home-insurance-contents

Before buying a policy make sure you have read and understood the insurers "assumption" questions ie you haven't been flooded, bankrupt, criminally convicted, the flat is standard construction, etc.

If you are in any doubt, ring the insurer.
