I don't know if I am asking in the right place, but does anyone know of any free or cheap software that would allow me to make a 40"x16" collage of small photos in a grid layout? I have someone who can print it for me once it is put together.

The GIMP is free, and can do that pretty easily - limited only by your creativity0

I promise I am not doing this to be clever .....I wan't to help. A collection of pictures is called a montage and searching for this might get you closer to what you want.
A collage is one of those collections of bits of nature or whatever. It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0
