Anyone Live In A House Thats Not Quite Finished

Options
Im unhappy with my kitchen, two lots of wall sockets wonky and not replastered in. (this was left due to electrician not coming back). Ive tried doing it myself but made a mess.

The big thing in my kitchen is the plumbing for water pipes to waste and tap and central heating. They are loose and the wall underneath is not complete. Some of the pipes are so very old. Just want the wall behind fixed and them fixed to the wall as they clatter when central heating comes on.

LOL EVERYONE lives in a house thats "not quite finished" if they are honest. As a tradesman I have to admit to being less than enthusiastic at tackling the home jobs on a Sunday when I've been doing other peoples for 5/6 days a week (EID keeps reminding me of this little shortcoming of mine anyway). This week is seeing some progress though as I am on Xmas break.

Anyway - are your pictures the result of DIY or of having a tradesman in?

    Cheers.

That's nothing that a tube of mastic and a tub of paint wouldn't fix. :)

Yep, no such thing as having a holiday, I finished my kitchen end of August, started it 2.5 year prior to this. Everything in and working, sundry stuff can wait was my philosophy :j

Ive been repainting the ceiling in dulux white and then repainting the walls in pale green but want to get the plumbing sorted first at minimal cost, but the plumbing was set like that when I moved in the house in 2002. I had the house replastered in 2008 but the plasterer failed to plaster under the pipes and other hard to reach places.

  • Your house looks fabulous compared to ours.

After two builders told us they would be happy to do work for us, we started preparations for them coming and then they vanished.

So we are living with plasterboard walls, an exposed RSJ across the middle of our living room, bare brick in places, no skirting or architrave, trim ripped off some of the windows and a plastic sheet stretched across the opening where the fireplace used to be.

Needless to say there was little point putting up a Christmas tree in a building site! Never mind, we managed to make the house presentable to cater for a house guest before Christmas.

New Year's Resolution: find a builder who wants our money!

New Year's Resolution: find a builder who wants our money!

I has my house reskimmed and rewired four years ago. It was awful mess everywhere. Id left work on voluntary redundancy 2008 and while work was done lived at my parents for two weeks. I ended up rushing around doing diy, clearing up the dust, painting the walls and got skirting boards fitted, sanding down stairs, and by november had the carpet fitted in bedrooms stairs and living room and lino in the kitchen. All this since may 2008 while looking for a job. Managed to get one in oct 2008 but had to get decorator to do ceilings and the stairs walls and ceiling. As it was only me I had to get all my stuff out of storage myself, lifting all the boxes back in. I was sore bruised and very shattered every single day. New fireplace went in too put in by a friend for nothing. The stair edges next to walls have gaps which are all uneven and next thing is the back bedroom to be replastered when I pull the wallpaper off next year.

Its something I dont want to do again.:o yet after four years the same slightly cracks are appearing in the walls again. Lorries and skips behind our street so the constant drops of skips shake our houses.
