Have to say I agree - we did exactly the same thing, coincidentally with Indesit products too - however no part of me thought that the people bringing me the products would be qualified plumbers moonlighting as delivery guys!?

As you say yourself, "...and also had advice from the staff regarding delivery and taking our old appliances away". No mention of advice from the staff regarding fitting or unfitting anything. I'm actually quite impressed they put the fridge freezer in your house; that's why they're called DELIVERY men and not INSTALLATION men.
