Dd has just returned from 200 mile motorway journey. Intermittent muffled deep knocking sound from one side of engine started on the way back.

She's just driven round the block with me so I could hear it and it happened a couple of times again.

Car is 09 plate Hyundai i10 with 42,000 miles, fully serviced, next service not due for 6,000 miles. The car is used daily for work , it's mileage is mostly motorway miles.

Going to phone the garage in the morning, in the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions what it might be, please?

If its only heard when driving and not when the engine it running whilst parked its not the engine.

Suspension joints, Engine/Gearbox mounts, Exhaust, Brakes.

Well after reading this the other day I did wonder...but there was no burning-fur smell, so probably not :D

It's had a quick check today and there's nothing immediately apparent, so will need to be booked in for proper check. The noise hasn't happened again today :undecided

The Hyundia Metz is well known for having a failed crank shaft ( to quote a Hyundai dearler is is a commen fault)
#and i think the i110 has the same engine.
You could try here but you still have a warranty that will cover it.
